Shadows and Disturbances, taken from her 2007 Turner Prize nomination.

On Saturday I was given the task of suggesting an exhibition to go to with some of my friends. My choice was heavily based on a lack of funds, an urge to go somewhere I had never been before and the proximity of a certain beigel shop!

My choice? Zarina Bhimiji at the Whitechapel Gallery. Bhimiji’s work documents (among other things) abandoned buildings throughout India and East Africa. The photographs alone would be enough to get me there. What I had not been expecting was her film Yellow Patch. The film documents a number of buildings in India, as well as an abandoned harbour, all to a haunting soundtrack of the voices that are no longer there.

The exhibition runs until 9th March. You can view the film yourself here.

Til death do us part

I stumbled across this set of photographs earlier today and they reminded me of my Granma and Granda. I can't even begin to imagine how heartbreaking it would be lose someone you spent your whole life with.

Sunday Mourning

On Sunday I went on a tour round Highgate West Cemetery with my housemate. Built in 1839, the cemetery is home to some of the most beautiful graves I have ever seen.

The final picture on here is that of George Wombwell’s grave. In early 1800 he purchased two Boa Constrictors and exhibited them, at a cost, around Soho. Once he realised how popular it was to show these exotic animals, he collected a whole menagerie and travelled around Great Britain with them. Often when his animals died he would sell them to taxidermists or to medical schools. In some instances however he exhibited them. Anyone could see a live animal, but how rare would it be to see one that was dead.

A golf ball of dreams.

I have always been fascinated by Epcots Spaceship Earth as much as I have Disney World's castle. These amazing photographs taken in the 1970's from Disneypix, document the building of it. Maybe it's just me but I think even being constructed it looks magical.

Addicted to (Black) Milk

In love with these leggings from Black Milk. They also have THE most amazing skeleton (and spaceman) swimming costumes as seen below. These are a selection of photographs taken from their tumblr by people who have bought clothing from them.

These pictures are instantly better

The above photographs are by Matt Schwartz and the below photograph was taken by myself.

In my head, all pictures taken with a Polaroid are instantly better. They also seem so dreamy and nostalgic. I can't wait until the summer gets here so I can take some pictures with mine.

Her Camera Solo

The above photographs are taken from Patti Smith's new book Camera Solo. Documenting the singers life, the book compromises of 70 black and white Polaroids. The photographs capture Smith's view of the world around her, as opposed to listening to it through her music.
